RT.REV.A.CHRISTOPHER ASIR - BIOGRAPHY

The Madurai Ramnad diocese was prayerfully seeking  for a person can lead spiritually and shoulder the responsibilities of the diocese. The democratic process went on systematically and the panel was sent to the synod – In god’s own time , a name was announced as the Bishop –Elect. He is none other than Rev. A..Christopher Asir , who is simple friendly prayerful and having progressive thinking for upliftment of poor and establishing justice. In his opinion spiritually is exercising love and fraternity. Closer to people and serving god. 

The Rev. A. Christopher Asir was born to Mr. P. Asir and Mrs. Packiam Asir  in Pannaivillai. Thoothukkudi district on 5th December 1947. just a few months after the birth of independent India . Asir’s family was deeply devoted and consistently committed to the lord’s ministry Hence we have two bishops haling from this family namely the present ECI Bishop Ezra Sargunam and former CSI Tirunelveli Bishop Jebaraj. 

The Rev. A. Christopher Asir had his primary and high school studies at CSI Tucker Higher Secondary School. Pannaivilai. He did his college studies at the Pope’s college sawyerpuram. He finished Bachelor of Divinity Degree at the United Theological college. Bangalore. 

He married Esther Chandra ( Former Principal  School of Nursing, Stanley Hospital, Chennai ) on 8th May 1970. Since he was interested and involved in ministry from his younger days , he rose from level to level for greater glory of god . He was ordained in 1975 and he served under 3 Bishops for 30 years, out of 11 councils in diocese , he has served in 8 meritoriously. 

As for he and family they continue to serve the lord in various capacities. Their daughter Mrs. Jothi Sophia is the Principal of the CSI College of Nursing, Pasumalai, Married  to Mr. M. D. Christopher a Lecturer in American College, Madurai and blessed with two sons.

The first son Mr. Jeba John Asir is a Teacher at A. C Higher Secondary School, Madurai, married to Jasmine Celine Mary working in Nehru Vidyasalai , Madurai and Blessed with a daughter.

The second son Mr. Joel Sam Asir is a teacher at Pasumalai Higher Secondary Higher Secondary School, Madurai , Married to J. Anitha  a lecturer of Ultra College of Nursing, Madurai  and blessed with a son. 

The ministerial track record of Rev. A . Christopher Asir is interesting for the younger clergy  to follow . during the flood in Vedachandur in 1977. he was involved in rescue  operation with the help of CASA . Indeed it was a turning point in his ministerial career.

With his theological exposure to RUSHA he was sensitized to the rural development. When he was pasturing in Usillampatti area during 1982-87 , he organized the congregation for rural  development . Earlier when he was working near Madukulathur in 1981 he successfully resolved a conflict between two communities in sharing drinking water from the public well. When he was the clergy Secretary (1991- 1994) , he recognized to collect Rs. 10 Lacks to start the CSI college of Nursing at Pasumalai.

The new bishop the rt. Rev. A . Christopher Asir has a vision for the Madurai Ramnad diocese. His first commitment is to uphold the decision of the diocese prioritize the ministry to the severely mentally affected children at homes in Ramnad and Rameshwaram  . He is Passionate to provide fee primary education to the rural.

His Comments About His Ministry Even unto this day I have enjoyed working in rural parishes. So far I have worked in 14 Pastorates and in 8 Local Council Areas.  Invariably my ministerial transfer was for helping a pastor or a parish to solve problems at the request of the Bishops.
